Slovenia is a small country that emerged after the breakup of Yugoslavia. It’s not as well-known and popular as Croatia – and perhaps that’s why it’s worth a visit. Slovenia’s top attractions include beautiful mountains, karst caves, thermal springs, a colorful coastline and a stretch of the Istrian peninsula – the country’s capital Ljubljana and Maribor are also worth a visit.

Ljubljana is one of the more pleasant cities I’ve had the opportunity to visit. Kamelral, nicely located, quiet and with some cool attractions. It’s a great place for a short citybreak or even a day trip. While in Slovenia, it’s worth spending at least a few hours around this small but interesting capital. Among the city’s biggest attractions are: Ljubljanski Castle (Ljubljanski Grad), Mestni trg and Town Hall, Main Square (Glavna trznica), Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) and Ljubljanski Cruise
In the eastern part of Slovenia is Maribor, the country’s second largest city. It is an important economic and cultural center. A 15th-century castle towers over the city. Also worth visiting: St. John the Baptist Cathedral, the Late Gothic Town Hall, the synagogue and the Basilica of St. Mary Mother of Mercy. We recommend a walk along the Drava River. An interesting attraction is the oldest vineyard in the world located here, which is about 400 years old.
Ptuj It is the oldest city in Slovenia. Ptuj looks beautiful when viewed from the bridge over the river. Colorful townhouses and a small castle with towers are the city’s landmarks. In Ptuj, be sure to see the medieval streets, visit the Dominican monastery, the castle, the Povoden Museum in the city tower and St. George’s Church.
The Škocjan Caves (slo. Škocjanske jame) have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. As a result, they are now one of Slovenia’s top tourist attractions, although they are still not as popular as they deserve to be. The Škocjan Caves are a complex of karst caves that are now just over 6 kilometers long (the hiking trail is 3 kilometers long), 234 meters deep, and measure as much as 435 meters at their highest point! There are 3 different routes available to explore. The first route, the red one, can be taken only with a guide, the second route can be taken alone or with a guide. The third route does not require a guide.
Celje Castle is a place for fans of castles and the medival. Celje Castlee towers on a hill above the town of Celje and can be reached by bus. The castle has exhibitions of medieval artifacts and a small torture museum, centuries-old walls and corridors to see. Most impressive is the view from the high tower. From its top you can see the mountains, the river and the town.
