-Norwegian CUISINE –
What is the typical Norwegian cuisine?
Countries in the far north have a climate that is extremely harsh for agriculture. Their location significantly influences traditional dishes. The same is true in Norway, where simple dishes made from high-quality natural ingredients are most appreciated. In all northern countries, winter is much harsher than in southern Europe. This has forced the population to use all sorts of food preservation methods to survive this harsh period. Hence, as in Sweden or Denmark, traditional Norwegian cuisine abounds in various types of fish: salted, smoked, dried. Norwegian dishes are simple, as is the way they are seasoned, which is usually limited to salt and pepper. This gives the dishes a taste of the natural ingredients from which they were prepared. In addition to fish dishes, you’ll also find a wealth of meat dishes, potato dishes, and you’ll get a variety of cheese as a starter. Norwegians are also fond of forest fruits. Raspberries, blueberries, blueberries and cranberries are used in various desserts and main dishes.
