-Dutch CUISINE –
What is the typical Dutch cuisine? Dutch food - these specialties you must try!
When going to the Netherlands, it is worth preparing not only for the ubiquitous bicycles and tulips, but also for an interesting cuisine that is unusual for us. This is because the country is famous for its excellent cuisine, which stands out among other European countries. The mainstay is, of course, cheese. However, this is not the only delicacy we can taste during our stay in the Netherlands. Check out what else is worth eating.
Bitterballen – tasty balls
Do you like small treats that go perfectly with, for example, a cold beer? If so, be sure to try Bitterballen during your stay in the Netherlands. These are small balls made of potatoes and cheese, which are served with various toppings, such as sauces, goat cheese or spicy mustard. We can find them in practically every bar. What’s more, they taste really delicious.
Harig – hot dog with herring
We all know that the Dutch love herring. As well as the fact that they eat them in a very interesting way – holding them by the tail and biting off a piece at a time. Nevertheless, not everyone knows that in the Netherlands we can try eating a hot dog with herring. The sandwich consists of raw, marinated fish, onions and a hot dog bun. The whole thing tastes interesting and intriguing, although of course it is not a delicacy for everyone.
Delicious yellow cheeses
Holland is a true kingdom of cheeses. Especially when it comes to yellow, long-ripened cheeses. The most popular types coming from this country are Gouda, Leerdammer, Edammer, Maaslander, Amsterdammer. However, it is worth being aware that in this country each farm and cheese company uses its own recipes with additives, so we can enjoy a wealth of flavor and aroma.
Poffertjes – something for lovers of sweetness
For the Dutch, dessert is an integral part of dinner and they do not allow themselves to give it up. They have a variety of interesting sweet dishes that will meet the expectations of any gourmand. Particularly noteworthy, however, are poffertjes, which are small pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar. They are really delicate in taste and fluffy. This makes their consumption a real pleasure.
For alkohol fans – beer and jenever
In the Netherlands, beer is consumed eagerly and in large quantities. It is often a drink served with a meal. No wonder, Dutch beers are really good, and varieties such as Heineken, Grolsch and Amstel have gained worldwide fame.
In addition to beer, jenever, or juniper gin, is also worth savoring in the Netherlands. This is a very thick gin created from molasses to which juniper berries are added.
So, as you can see, Dutch cuisine is diverse and abounds in many interesting flavors, from which each of us can find something for ourselves. At the same time, in most cases, the dishes are simple, made from products available in any store. Dutch delicacies can therefore also be made in our country.
