Croatian cuisine

-CROATIAN CUISINE –

What is the typical Croatian cuisine?

Traditional Croatian cuisine is characterized by considerable variation from region to region. Dishes on the coast are derived from typical Mediterranean cuisine and resemble the cuisine of the Venetian region. In contrast, the traditional cuisine of central Croatia is similar to continental Slavic and Balkan cuisine. From the continental cuisine come folk flour dishes with cheese, such as strukli or borek, as well as classic meaty Balkan kebabs and goulash. By contrast, more fish and seafood dishes and vegetables are eaten on the coast. Among sweet dishes, delicacies such as pancakes, strucli and a type of deep-fried doughnuts reign supreme.
