-BRITISH CUISINE –
What is the typical British cuisine?
British cuisine was formed in a cool maritime climate, where people need a lot of energy first thing in the morning. Therefore, the English breakfast is very hearty and filling, rich in protein and carbohydrates. The main national dishes are all kinds of casseroles with meat, pies stuffed with meat and offal or meat in pastry. On a daily basis, fish and French fries are the most popular, while roast beef is eaten on holidays. British cuisine was also influenced by Indian cuisine, as English delicacies were enriched with curry. If you have so far associated British cuisine only with fish and chips, it’s time to change this and learn about other interesting dishes.
Traditional English dishes - what is worth trying?
Fish and chips – is the first dish that is associated with Great Britain. But breaded or battered fish served with fries drizzled with vinegar (yes… vinegar!) and mashed peas is not the only specialty of English cuisine. Let’s check out what else is cooked in England.
Cottage pie – something for fans of casseroles. In the English version, this dish consists of two layers. The bottom is minced meat with sauce and vegetables. On top, the attention is drawn to the mashed potatoes, which are decorated with a fork.
Jacket potato – another potato offering of English cuisine. The main character here is a huge jacket potato. After baking it is cut and filled with additives – beans, fish paste or vegetables. It is necessary to sprinkle it with cheddar cheese. A simple and filling dish.
Beef Wellington – exquisiteness in full. It is a roasted beef tenderloin surrounded by mushrooms or pate and wrapped in puff pastry. Chefs serve it delicately raw. It goes perfectly with mushrooms and roasted potatoes.
Black pudding – it might seem like a dessert. Nothing could be further from the truth. English dishes can surprise you. Black pudding is an English pudding made of offal and blood.
