Antwerpen-Centraal Station
Antwerpen-Centraal Station: the main railroad station is certainly one of the most unusual buildings of its kind in Europe. The station was built at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, and owes its unusual appearance to its many columns, towers, glass domes and balconies.
Diamond district
Diamond district: is located next to the station and is by far the most valuable part of the city. The district is home to the headquarters of the best gemstone cutters in their craft. There is also no shortage of jewelry stores there, with diamond jewelry dominating the scene. Interestingly, it is estimated that about 80 percent of the world’s diamonds are sold in Antwerp.
Grote Markt
Grote Markt: the largest square in the city, where Antwerpers like to meet. Some of the buildings on the square were built as early as the 16th century, and one of the highlights is the Renaissance Town Hall. In the central part of the square is the Brabo fountain, and all around you can admire merchant guild houses and townhouses.
Het Steen Castle
Het Steen Castle: is the oldest building in the city, located on the banks of the river. The castle was built between 1200 and 1225, but was later rebuilt several times. From the mid-15th to the mid-19th century, the castle served as a prison.
St. Mary’s Cathedral
St. Mary’s Cathedral: is one of the largest and most spectacular Gothic churches in Belgium. It is worth seeing not only from the outside, but also inside – in its stunning interior you can also see Rubens’ cannons.
Rubens House
Rubens House: the building where the famous painter of the Baroque era lived. The house also includes a part that served the artist as a studio. In this part of the house the painter created his greatest works. In the museum, tourists can see the painter’s works, as well as view the rooms where Rubens lived, including the living room, bedroom, kitchen and dining room.
Zurenborg district
Zurenborg district: is a part of the city where you can take a break from the crowds of tourists and stroll along the atmospheric streets. Here you can see neoclassical mansions and Art Nouveau houses, among others.
